We wear the snowshoes for a short time on the winter hiking trail to the chapel Sontga Gada. From here we go down to the young Rhine, where we cross the water over a historic bridge. We take the ascent to Mompé Medel comfortably, because it is quite steep. Arriving in the village, we pack up the snowshoes briefly until we reach the bar La Scurslada.  Further up, the landscape presents itself open and far, sometimes we pass individual fir trees or birch trees, then again at a Maiensäss. Before the hill of Stagias we share the ascent a bit with the sledgers, so caution is advised. At the Academia Vivian we stop, we lean on the warm wooden wall warmed up by the sun and see what our backpack gives. If it has a bottle of wine with it: all the better! Because we're going to have time in this beautiful place.

Down the valley we follow the signs for Mutschnengia, but we can also make our own tracks across the open field and whirl up the snow under our snowshoes. We make a short detour to the panoramic restaurant of the Hotel Cuntera in Mutschnengia. The village is still inhabited all year round and a small tour between the stables is worthwhile. Behind the last houses, an interesting suspension bridge spans the small valley. With snowshoes packed up, we hike along the cleared and little-used road to Curaglia, from where the post bus takes us back to Disentis.

The Academia Vivian can be rented for events of any kind. It is suitable for private events, family celebrations as well as for theme days with schools and universities or as a retreat room for companies – all in the picturesque surroundings of the young mountain forest

Tip: The tour is also signposted in the opposite direction from the starting point Curaglia/Fadretsch.

The route is signposted, but those who are not familiar with the area are advised to print out the topo map for the tour and carry it with them.

The tour starts at the information board at the Disentis Sports Centre. We follow the signposted snowshoe trail to Mompé Medel. At the upper end of the village, the pink signs point us further, partly over open terrain and partly on a winter hiking trail to Stagias. From here we continue to follow the signs or we make our own tracks in the fresh snow until we reach the road to Curaglia. We pack up the snowshoes.
