Varied tour through the gorge of the Rein da Medel up to the reservoir Santa Maria at the Lukmanier Pass
After the lowest point of the tour in Fontanivas, some tunnels provide fresh temperatures, but caution is also advised. It gets exciting when we branch off into the tunnel to Mompé Medel. This seems long to us, but fortunately it has little traffic. Arriving in the village we enjoy a first view of the valley, but the higher we get, the further our field of vision becomes. The stagia hill is ideal for a first break before we roll down to Mutschnengia. We stay on the left side of the river until Platta and then change a bit to the pass road, on which we stay until Sogn Gions. On a natural road, the former Säumerweg, you walk along the stream and past a historic hospice in Sogn Gall to Alp Vatgira. The old bridge in Stgegia is particularly striking: built of stones, bent over the Rein da Medel, it impressively testifies to a time when people travelled by horse, mule, wagon or even on foot. The modern cable car, located right next to it, only brings specialists from the military and Swisscom to Mount Scopi - not for us. In the south, the Santa Maria reservoir blocks our view, we feel very small at the foot of the wall. Arriving on the pass route, however, we can still make a swivel on the crown of the wall to change the perspective.
For the return trip to Disentis we stay on the not too busy pass route to Disentis...... easy peasy!
By car from Chur to Disentis. Or from Lucerne via Andermatt and the Oberalp Pass to Disentis
Or drive to TCS Camping Fontanivas, on Lukmanierstrasse
