Gipfelerlebnis Piz Cavradi

We hike up to the paved road that leads to the Curnera reservoir . The dam was built in 1966 and is now part of the Axpo Group. From the street you can still see the terraces where the barracks stood during the construction period. In 2014, the dam was briefly featured in the film "Edge of Tommorow", in which it served as a supposed hiding place for aliens. In the rocky slopes on the other side of the valley is the Eldorado of the local spotlights. Don't be alarmed, on weekdays there is blowing up from time to time.

In front of the lake we turn onto a hiking trail that leads us first steeply up and then steeply down again into Val Platta. We leave the Maighelshütte on the left for the time being, continue to climb towards the summit, where the trail is lost in the uppermost section and we follow the red and white markings on the boulders. They lead us safely to the summit of Piz Cavradi. The view is just wonderful! We descend the same way to the Maighelshütte and stop for a coffee. Afterwards we take the road downhill until we can branch off again onto a hiking trail to Tschamut.

Short version: From the Oberalp Pass on the direct route to the Maighelshütte and to the Piz Cavradi. Same way back.

If you stay in the Maighelshütte and climb to the summit early, you can experience the most beautiful sunrise in the Surselva.

We take the hiking trail that leads from the pass route left down into the valley. After the bridge over the Rhine, turn left up to the paved road that leads to the Curnera reservoir. Before we reach the lake we turn right onto the hiking trail towards Maighelshütte. We reach the Val Platta from where we follow the signs to the Maighelshütte. After the hut we follow the white-red markings to the summit. Descent to the hut on the same path, then on the road to the junction to Tschamut.
