Gipfelerlebnis Piz Cavradi

We cross the young Rhine in Tschamut and hike up to the paved road that leads to the Curnera reservoir. The dam was built in 1966 and is now part of the Axpo Group. From the street you can still see the terraces where the barracks stood during the construction period. In 2014, the dam was briefly seen in the film "Edge of tommorow", in which it served as a supposed hiding place for aliens. In the rocky slopes on the other side of the valley is the Eldorado of the native spotlights. Do not be frightened, on weekdays is blown up from time to time.

Before the lake we turn onto a hiking trail that leads us first steeply up and then steeply back down into Val Platta.  We leave the Maighelshütte on the left for the time being and we save the coffee stop for after the summit. In the top section, the terrain is very rocky, the trail is lost, but the red and white markings are clearly visible on the boulders. The summit is wide and flat, the view just wonderful. To the Maighelshütte we descend on the same path, afterwards we take the road downhill until we can branch off again on a hiking trail to Tschamut.

Short variant: From the Oberalp Pass on the direct way to the Maighelshütte and to the Piz Cavradi. Same way back.

If you stay in the Maighelshütte and climb to the summit early, you can experience the most beautiful sunrise in the Surselva.
