Graubünden Gravel & Road: «Menu for Cyclists»
Starters - short and crisp up to 1,200 hm
1. Runda Sinestra
Gravel, Engadin Samnaun Val Müstair
On the ride into the wild, legendary Val Sinestra, characteristic Lower Engadin village silhouettes are the extras. Gentle inclines alternate with steep ramps. At the furthest point, a short, crisp single-trail descent awaits. Out of the valley, it's a little easier, finally along the banks of the Inn.
36 km, 1063 hm, 3:15 h
2. Canova Cruise
Gravel, Viamala
Old castles, mighty fortresses and wonderful orchards characterise this loop through the Domleschg. There are no long climbs on this leisurely tour. Fast gravel roads lead through the hilly cultural landscape and the reedy Canova Lake invites you to linger.
19 km, 253 hm, 1:20 h
3. Tour de Obersaxen
Road, Surselva
A steady roll along the turquoise Vorderrhein, followed by a steady climb and wonderfully tight bends that tempt you to ride in a saddle on the ascent. Grandiose views on the winding road through the villages of the Obersaxen plateau, finally a dizzying descent to Ilanz.
53 km, 954 hm, 2:40 h
4. Runda Curnera
Road, Disentis Sedrun
The Oberalp Pass: a Grisons classic like Capuns and Salsiz. The serpentines before the pass summit are built for racing bike dreams, the climb to Lai da Curnera is an insider tip. Concentration is required on the rapid descent to Disentis.
51 km, 1208 hm, 3:00 h
Main course - hearty and rich from 1,400 hm upwards
5. Runda Lai da Vons
Gravel, Viamala
After the rhythmic road to the Sufnersee, gravel follows to what is probably the most beautiful pass village in Switzerland. From Splügen it gets steep, but without any nasty ramps. At Lai da Vons, wide views reward you, including the Rheinwaldhorn. The descent to Andeer? Long, racy and quite bumpy.
39 km, 1436 hm, 4:15 h
6. Runda Claustra
Gravel, Disentis Sedrun
Following a Graubünden icon - the Rhaetian Railway - the route starts from the imposing Benedictine monastery of Disentis up the valley; there are some crisp ramps to master. After changing sides to the Rhine: pure gravel fun in a constant up and down like a roller coaster, finally a short, fun single trail descent.
51 km, 1585 hm, 5:00 h
7. Haute Route Mundaun
Gravel, Surselva
A sweaty circumnavigation of one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in Switzerland with the best panorama guaranteed. At the latest at the summit of Alp Nova with its weathered huts, the air becomes thin after 2000 hm. The single-trail descent from the Obersaxen high plateau: extra class.
67 km, 1950 hm, 6:20 h
8. Giro Parc Naziunal Svizzer
Road, Engadin Samnaun Val Müstair
More road bike? Non è possibile! Steep ramps in the Swiss National Park, speed rush in aero position, espresso in Livigno, headwind at the Forcola di Livigno, glacier highlight on the Bernina Pass and motivational training along the Inn River.
99 km, 1565 hm, 6:00 h
Dessert - enjoyable and relaxing up to 800 hm
9. Muntada S-charl
Gravel, Engadin Samnaun Val Müstair
A branch tour into another world: Steep ramps wind up from Scuol to the former miners' settlement of S-charl. But on Gravel the gradient soon becomes gentler - and the surroundings unearthly beautiful. Along the rough gravel bed of the meandering Clemgia, the mountain trail leads almost to the highest stone pine forest in Europe, the God da Tamangur.
24 km, 791 hm, 2:30 h
10. Runda Curta
Gravel, Disentis Sedrun
This loop makes every gravel heart beat faster over the shortest distance. In a constant up and down, roads and paths follow the young Rhine through a picturesque cultural landscape. Fitness and riding technique are only moderately challenged; enjoyment and panorama play the main roles.
14 km, 401 hm, 1:20 h
11. Brigels Bella Vista
Gravel, Surselva
Fragrant flower meadows, panoramic views and fun gravel roads: The leisurely start is soon followed by some fast bends. A little bit of adventure comes up when you head cross-country on a meadow path from Waltensburg back towards the turquoise Lag da Breil
9 km, 250 hm, 0:50 h
12. Runda Schams
Road, Viamala
An absolute insider's tip on the east side of the striking Piz Beverin: racing bike heart, what more could you desire? The climb to the mountain village of Lohn is rhythmic and entertaining. The panoramic road really curves towards Wergenstein. The downhill metres are covered on a small agricultural road through spicy mountain meadows.
